Next year’s UEFA Euro 2024 tournament in Germany has received more than 20 million ticket applications from football fans around the world.

More than 1.2 million tickets were available during the application period, which ended on October 26.

The competition is set to take place across 10 cities in Germany from June 14 to July 14, with the opening game to be played at Munich’s Allianz Arena (pictured) and the final to be staged at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

In total, more than 20 million ticket applications were received from 206 countries during the first sales period, which was held between October 3 and October 26. Some 7.8 million applications were made during the first 24 hours alone.

“The anticipation for UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany is rising every day,” said UEFA Events chief executive Martin Kallen. “With our simple and fair ticketing process combined with affordable prices, we can once again offer fans access to unforgettable moments and special encounters. The exceptional number of ticket applications is testament to the continued appeal of the tournament and the interest of fans around the world.”

Fans from Germany made up 65% of the ticket applications, followed by supporters from England, France, Spain and Austria. Fans from outside of Germany applied for tickets to three different venues, on average.

Outside of Europe, fans from the US, Canada, Australia, China and Mexico also applied for tickets. Some 525,000 tickets were applied for from residents in these countries.

Almost 2.3 million tickets were requested for the final, which equates to 33 times the 74,475 capacity of Berlin’s Olympiastadion. More than 1.4 million applications were received for the opening game, roughly 21 times the 75,024 capacity of Munich’s Allianz Arena. On average, each fan applied for 13 tickets.

The final, along with the opening match (which will feature hosts Germany) and the two other group matches that involve the home nation drew the most interest.

Tickets for all 51 matches will be allocated at the beginning of November via a lottery system. Successful applicants will then be informed by November 14 and they will be asked to confirm their order.

The next sales phase will begin in December, with fans able to apply for tickets after the final draw on December 2. One million tickets will be made available to fans via the 21 qualified national associations, as well as the official UEFA ticket portal. Fans will have to meet specific criteria defined by their respective national association to secure their seat, while tickets will also be held back for sale to supporters of national teams that qualify through the UEFA Euro 2024 play-offs, which are scheduled for March next year.

A ticket resale platform will be made available from spring onwards.

Last week saw UEFA Euro 2024 organisers sign a deal with the Association of German Transport Companies to launch the ‘KombiTicket’. With a focus on sustainability, these tickets will provide fans with access to public transport on the day of the match.
