Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert film is set top the box office charts this weekend in the US, but has only posted $6m (£5m/€5m) worth of ticket pre-sales for the opening day.
Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé is the second film to be distributed by AMC Theatres behind Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The Renaissance flick is predicted to achieve a $30-$40m global opening, according to Deadline.
The Eras Tour concert film racked up $65m in first-day pre-sales compared to the Renaissance concert movie’s $6m, despite Beyoncé’s most recent 56-performance, 39-city record-breaking jaunt bringing in close to $600m.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film has grossed over $250m worldwide.
According to a report from Billboard, Beyoncé’s film is set to play across 2,539 theatres in the US, and a further 2,780 globally.
Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé will play in cinemas from today (Friday), and will feature as part of a Thursday-Sunday schedule.
The film celebrated its London premiere last night, which was attended by Swift, and former Destiny’s Child band mate Michelle Williams.
