Some 27,000 tickets have been sold for the Cathay HSBC Hong Kong Sevens event at Hong Kong Stadium next year, despite the general public ticket sales only beginning on December 1.

According to a report from The Standard, almost two-thirds of the tickets for the rugby event have been sold. It will be the last time the Cathay HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will be held at Hong Kong Stadium before moving to the new Kai Tai Sports Park from 2025.

As of this week, 26,892 tickets have been sold, which equates to over 65% of Hong Kong Stadium’s 40,000 capacity.

The event will take place from April 5-7 next year.

Elsewhere, tickets to watch football superstar Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami CF team in a Hong Kong friendly were snapped up in under an hour today (Friday). According to a report from ABS-CBN News, organisers said that nearly two million people queued online for tickets.

Inter Miami recently announced an international pre-season tour and will face a side made up of Hong Kong footballers at Hong Kong Stadium on February 4.

Tickets were reportedly priced between HK$880 (£88/€103/$113) to HK$4,880.
