‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ movie has become the highest-grossing concert film ever, according to reports.

The film was released on October 13, and has since earned $261.6m (£205m/€238m) globally, as reported by Variety.

‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ film surpassed the previous record holder ‘Michael Jackson’s This Is It’, which opened in 2009 and grossed $261.2m at the global box office.

The current figure was boosted by the film’s record-breaking opening weekend, which saw $92.8m grossed in North America, and $30.7m taken internationally. The cumulative total of $123.5m made it the best start for a concert film ever, usurping 2011’s ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ which made $73m during the same period of time.

Swift opted to partner with cinema chain AMC Theatres, rather than distributing the film from a major studio. This also allowed the singer to reap roughly 57% of the ticket sales, with cinemas keeping the remaining revenue and AMC taking a small distribution fee.

The film played in 3,855 theatres in the US and Canada, and a further 4,527 venues internationally.
