Ticket sales have stuttered for the upcoming T20 international cricket match between India and Afghanistan, according to a report from the Times of India.
The report reveals that despite tickets being on sale since December 30, various sections (particularly the more expensive options) were unsold until yesterday (Sunday).
India will face Afghanistan as part of a three-match T20 series that will begin on Thursday, with further games scheduled for January 14 and 17.
The first match is set to take place at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Lower-priced tickets sold out quickly, but Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has witnessed a slower uptake for more premium seats.
Now that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the match, the MPCA is hoping this will provide a boost for ticket sales.
MPCA president Abhilash Khandekar told the Times of India: “The BCCI’s announcement of the Indian team sets the stage for an exciting series. We anticipate a significant boost in ticket purchases starting Monday, with star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma leading the pack. Avesh Khan’s inclusion, being a local talent, is an added attraction.”
