Taranaki rugby club halves ticket prices due to poor views

Ticket prices for New Zealand rugby union club Taranaki Bulls have been cut in half for its upcoming season at the 25,500-capacity Yarrow Stadium.

The club sent fans an email stating general admission tickets have been reduced from NZ$22 (£12/€13/$14) for an adult to NZ$10.50.

The reason behind the pricing is due to the restricted views in the northern and southern terrace, where general admission fans can sit.

Marques built at either end of the ground for hospitality patrons partially block supporters’ view in those sections.

Acting chief executive Paul Veric said, according to the Stuff.co.nz website: “We’ve realised from our sideline offering and other infrastructure in place that the viewing general admission area is restricted. We want to give back to our fans by providing them with a cheaper general admission offering to encourage our communities to come join the celebration.”

Two grandstands at the stadium have closed for the upcoming season due to earthquake risk, so a 1,686-capacity temporary stand has been set up on the sideline.
