The T20 Showdown, a cricket match played at the Adelaide Oval for bushfire relief, has raised more than A$1m from ticketing, catering and sponsorship.
The money raised will be donated to the SA Bushfire Appeal for people directly affected by bushfires in Cudlee Creek and on Kangaroo Island.
The teams fielded by the Adelaide and Port Adelaide football clubs, plus some of cricket’s biggest names, played out a hotly contested game of cricket in front of a crowd of 34,219.
Adelaide Oval SMA chair Kevin Scarce AC, said: “I think today has been an incredibly proud day to be a South Australian.
“From the moment the idea was first raised, there has been overwhelming support – from the football clubs and cricket, the State Government, our staff, corporate and individual sponsors, media and broadcasters and, most importantly, from the South Australian community.
“I would like to particularly acknowledge our Adelaide Oval staff, many of whom donated their time and their wages to make today’s game possible.
“In addition, there are a number of corporate and broadcast partners who were instrumental in helping ensure we were able to put on such a great show. It was a total team effort.
“However, I’d like to save my biggest thanks to the community for supporting the game in such numbers and so generously. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
