A supporter of English non-league football club Scunthorpe United has purchased 1,000 tickets to donate to armed forces and emergency service workers.

According to a report from the BBC, Danny Stamp – who runs the food stalls at the 9,000-capacity Glanford Park stadium – purchased the tickets for the home game against Gloucester City on November 11.

Stamp hopes that the purchase would offer a boost to the financially troubled National League North side.

Local business owner Michelle Harness took over the club last month from the outgoing David Hilton, who only acquired the club in January. He left the club after issues with funding and a dispute over the use of Glanford Park.

Stamp told the BBC: “There are a lot of people who want the club to survive and we are just trying to make it as sustainable as possible at the minute. It’s massive for the community that we keep the club going.”
