AFC Bournemouth Women, which plays its football in the National League Division One South, featured in its third fixture at Vitality Stadium in front of a record crowd yesterday (Sunday).

The 11,000-capacity Vitality Stadium is traditionally home to the men’s side, which plays in the English Premier League. AFC Bournemouth Women faced Portishead Town and extended an unbeaten league start with a 4-0 win, attended by 6,805 fans.

AFC Bournemouth Women is currently at the top of the table with nine wins out of nine, and to celebrate this ongoing success, the club offered a ‘group booking’ rate.

This offer enabled local sports teams, schools and larger groups of supporters to purchase tickets at a discounted rate. It also enabled fans to nominate members of the group to be part of the matchday experience and win an exclusive tunnel activation.

The group booking offer accounted for 16% of yesterday’s ticket sales, with 1,091 sold.

Some 14% of all attendees were also new ticketing account holders, demonstrating the growth of the women’s team at AFC Bournemouth.

Women’s football is celebrating increased attendances globally; last month, Arsenal Women’s match against Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates Stadium attracted a Women’s Super League record of 54,115 spectators.

Following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which itself witnessed great attendances, the 2023-24 Liberty A-League Women’s season kicked off in October with multiple attendance records broken.
