New touring lead at AEG Presents

October saw touring industry veteran Rich Schaefer promoted to president of global touring at concert promotion and artist development company, AEG Presents. Schaefer previously held the position of senior vice-president of global touring. The news came following the departure of former Nirvana and Foo Fighters manager Gary Gersh in September. 

TM’s record-breaking summer in UK

With summer over, Ticketmaster execs took out their calculators and determined that they scanned a record-breaking four million fans into events across the UK and Ireland during the outdoor season. Among those, more than 80% of all tickets scanned at more than 600 events were SafeTix, which sees a holder’s digital ticket linked to their Ticketmaster account using an encrypted barcode. The barcode refreshes every few seconds and helps to prevent resellers from profiting through screenshots or photocopies.  

Mega demand for Euro 2024

The first phase of sales for the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament received more than 20 million ticket applications before concluding on October 26. Applications came from 206 countries during the first sales period for the tournament, to be staged in Germany. Some 7.8 million applications were made during the first 24 hours alone at the start of the month.

TikTok’s festival debut

TikTok announced plans for its first-ever real-world music festival, which was headlined by Cardi B and Niall Horan. The video sharing app’s In the Mix event was slated for the 15,000-capacity Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona in December. The supporting cast was drawn from TikTok’s emerging artist programme TikTok Elevate.
