Record-breaking summer for Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster scanned a record-breaking four million fans into events across the UK and Ireland this summer.

Over 80% of all tickets scanned at more than 600 events were SafeTix, which sees a holder’s digital ticket linked to their Ticketmaster account using an encrypted barcode. The barcode refreshes every few seconds and helps to prevent resellers rom profiting through screenshots or photocopies.

SafeTix also utilises NFC technology, meaning fans are able to tap and go when entering venues. This was used successfully at festivals such as Isle of Wight, Parklife, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and TRNSMT.

“Just when we think it can’t get any bigger, another record-breaking summer rolls in,” said Andrew Parsons, Ticketmaster UK managing director.

“The amount of hard work from our teams in Box Offices up and down the country has been remarkable. But the highlight for me is always the fans – seeing the joy on their faces as we scan them through the gates never gets old.”

Ticketmaster also introduced last-minute resale to offer ticket-holders the opportunity to sell their tickets at face-value up until the event started.

Parsons added: “By giving fans the ability to sell their tickets right up until gates open, we’ve ensured that fields have been full this summer. Not only is this such a vital component for outdoor shows, but the uptake in these last-minute sales is testament to just how important flexibility and secure resale is to fans.”
