Lyon’s Nuits de Fourvière festival has witnessed over 55,000 tickets sold in just a few hours.

Nuits de Fourvière traditionally features theatre, circus, music, dance and film presentations, and was first held in the summer of 1946.

Festival organisers added that the event’s website boasted record visitors, with more than 200,000 people vying for tickets.

Last year’s edition attracted some 166,000 festival-goers to the French city.

While many performances on the bill have already sold out, there are still nearly 100,000 spaces available for other shows.

Waiting lists for sold-out events have been set up via the Nuits de Fourvière ticketing website. A ticket exchange will also be set up from mid-April to allow spectators to resell tickets if they can no longer attend.

Nuits de Fourvière will return between May 30 and July 25, with more than 100 planned shows.
