Promoter AEG Presents UK’s live events arm has rebranded and focused its efforts on expanding its comedy division.
Variety has reported that comedy specialist Georgie Donnelly has been appointed as head of comedy and entertainment, with the goal of expanding the division to encompass live entertainment. To reflect this, the comedy division has been renamed to comedy and entertainment.
The change also demonstrates AEG Presents UK’s move into live podcasts and other forms of live entertainment. For example, the promoter recently announced a new tour for ‘The Rest is Politics’ podcast from former government spokesperson Alastair Campbell and cabinet minister Rory Stewart.
Additionally, the newly renamed division has expanded its head count through the hiring of junior promoter Ophelia Francis, with further appointments set to be confirmed in the coming months.
“Over the last year we have been building the range of shows that the department promotes so it made sense to have a new name which reflects that,” said Donnelly, as reported by Variety.
“Whilst the comedy scene in the UK continues to be so vibrant, there are all kinds of shows that we’ve found audiences are interested in coming to. We have had a big focus on podcasts for example having grown ‘The Rest is Politics Live’ show from the London Palladium to the upcoming O2 performance. Myself and the team are excited and energised for the year to come.”
AEG has recently overseen live entertainment events such as a book launch from actor Millie Bobby Brown, a live Q&A from actor Ryan Reynolds at the O2 Arena in London, and a live version of the BBC’s ‘Desert Island Discs’.
