WrestleMania XL has become WWE’s most successful and highest-grossing event in the entertainment company’s history.

Beating WrestleMania 39’s previous gate record by 78%, WrestleMania XL welcomed 145,298 to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia over two nights.

Guests attended from all 50 states in the US and 64 countries worldwide.

Merchandise sales were also up more than 20% versus the previous record set at WrestleMania 39.

Additionally, Friday Night Smackdown and Monday Night Raw at Wells Fargo Center drew the largest gate in the two events’ history, while NXT Stand & Deliver drew in 16,545 fans.

Earlier this month, WWE, UFC and On Location owner Endeavor was acquired by global technology investment firm, Silver Lake. The sports and entertainment company entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired in a deal worth $13bn (£10bn/€12bn).

WWE also announced that Glasgow’s OVO Hydro is set to host Scotland’s first-ever premium wrestling live event in June.
