Significant rise in demand for NFL’s international series in 2019

StubHub has revealed ticket demand for the NFL’s international series has increased by 55 per cent compared to 2018.

The 2019 NFL London games will be played at both Wembley Stadium and at Tottenham’s new stadium, with each venue hosting two of the four games. Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Los Angeles Chargers at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium.

The most in-demand game so far is for the Chicago Bears-Oakland Raiders matchup at the new 62,000-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Akshay Khanna, general manager of NFL for StubHub, told Reuters: “When the NFL first started the international series there were a lot of questions around whether there would be demand for American football in Europe, in Asia, in Mexico and elsewhere.

“It was viewed as such a domestic sport but the NFL has done a phenomenal job of growing its fan base.”

Ticket sales for international NFL fans looking to see a game in the US have jumped up 19 per cent compared to last season. The majority of the demand stems from Canada, Mexico, Australia, the UK and Germany.
