Over 90,000 fans filled Narendra Modi Stadium for yesterday’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final between hosts India and Australia.

According to a report from the Associated Press, some 92,453 fans – mostly decked out in India’s blue strip – packed out the stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, towards the end of the One Day International (ODI) match, there were swathes of empty seats as Australia spoiled the party by winning its sixth World Cup title.

Australia’s victory was helped by an innings of 137 from Travis Head.

Ahead of last week’s semi-final matches, organisers announced that over one million fans had attended the Cricket World Cup.

Earlier in the tournament, matches were not as well-attended – including the opening game between England and New Zealand.

Organisers have since claimed 47,518 attended that opening game, but this figure still looked low inside the 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium.
