Venues NSW has brought in US bank holding company American Express as the official payment partner for Allianz Stadium (pictured) and the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), with members able to access exclusive ticket pre-sales and premium hospitality options.

The new deal will see American Express accepted at all food, beverage and merchandise outlets across the sporting and entertainment precinct, as well as the launch of The American Express Garden at Allianz Stadium. American Express Card Members will have access to exclusive benefits across the precinct, including discounts on food and beverage options.

The American Express Garden at the 45,500-capacity Allianz Stadium will provide ticket-holders with access to premium hospitality options, as well as some of the best seats in the house. The new offering will launch ahead of a packed event schedule for the venue, including concerts from Sir Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and Pink, as well as sporting matches with Sydney FC, NSW Waratahs and Sydney Roosters.

Located on the level two terrace of the eastern grandstand, The American Express Garden will include a beer garden experience within the stadium. Tickets for the new hospitality offering will be priced from A$49 (£26/€29/$31).

“We’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with Venues NSW as the Official Payment Partner of Allianz Stadium and the Sydney Cricket Ground,” said Naysla Edwards, vice-president of brand, marketing and member experience at American Express.

“These iconic venues are centre stage for some of the biggest entertainment and sporting events that Sydney has the good fortune to host. Our new hospitality experience will take watching your favourite artists and sporting icons to a whole new level.”

Venues NSW general manager for commercial, Matt Hart, added: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome American Express on board as the Official Payment Partner of the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium.

“This partnership will see American Express Cards accepted across both venues, as well as the launch of The American Express Garden at Allianz Stadium – providing the ultimate destination for friends and family to come together to dine, socialise and enjoy the very best in sport and entertainment.”

Venues NSW is an agency of the Government of New South Wales, and owns and operates a number of sporting facilities across the Australian state.

Allianz Stadium staged its first major event in September last year following a A$874m revamp.

Work on the new-look venue, which is also known as Sydney Football Stadium, began in August 2020.

Earlier this year, the NSW Government directed Venues NSW to seek regulatory approval to lift the concert cap at the SCG and Allianz Stadium, allowing for the staging of 20 major events each year – up from an average of four.
