Peter Kay to open UK’s largest indoor arena, Co-op Live

Peter Kay is set to officially open Manchester’s new entertainment venue Co-op Live, with the comedian set to play at the state-of-the-art 23,500-capacity arena on April 23.

Tickets will be available through the pre-sale from tomorrow (Wednesday) for Co-op members, with the general sale taking place from February 23.

A Greater Manchester icon, Kay has been touring as part of his ‘Better Late Than Never’ stint since December 2022, including a monthly residency at London’s O2. The tour will continue until December 2025.

“When you think of Manchester, it’s hard not to think of Peter Kay,” said Gary Roden, executive director and general manager of Co-op Live.

“He embodies what this city is about, and to have him headlining Co-op Live is tremendously exciting. We’re creating an arena that is truly part of the community around it, and having Peter as our opening act is a perfect reminder of that.”

Co-op Live was initially due to open in 2023, but was pushed back until April this year. It will become the largest arena in the UK when it opens, overtaking fellow Manchester venue AO Arena.

In July last year, it was confirmed that the Jonas Brothers will perform as part of the venue’s opening season. Further acts set to play at the new venue include Olivia Rodrigo, Take That, Elbow, Keane, Liam Gallagher and The Killers.

The venue is located on the Etihad Campus – which also houses Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium – and is a joint venture between City Football Group and sports and entertainment advisory, development and investment company, Oak View Group.

Following the announcement of Kay’s first tour in 12 years back in 2022, a number of websites and apps offering pre-sale access to tickets crashed due to overwhelming demand.

At the time, O2 and Virgin Media said on X (formerly known as Twitter) that it had been “the most popular pre-sale ever”.
