Taylor Swift’s final European shows in London will go ahead next week following the cancellation of the singer’s three shows in Vienna.
The Vienna concerts – which were due to take place this week – were cancelled after two men were arrested in connection with a terror plot. Some 190,000 fans were expected to attend across Thursday, Friday (today) and Saturday at Ernst Happel Stadion.
Further reports following the cancellations explained that police had foiled an attack planned by one of those arrested; a 19-year-old Austrian who was intent on attacking fans with a bomb or a knife. Three suspects have now reportedly been arrested, and a fourth interrogated but not arrested.
The shows formed part of Swift’s Eras Tour, which has surpassed $1bn (£780m/€920m) in ticket sales and is reportedly the highest grossing concert tour of all time.
London’s Metropolitan Police have now reassured fans with tickets to the London shows that there will be no “impact” following the news from Austria.
“There is nothing to indicate that the matters being investigated by the Austrian authorities will have an impact on upcoming events here in London,” a spokesperson for the Met said.
Swift has already performed in the UK with three nights in London, as well Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff. However, she is set to play a further five shows at Wembley Stadium on August 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20.
The singer will then head back to North America for the final dates of her Eras Tour, with shows scheduled for Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on October 18, 19 and 20; Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on October 25, 26 and 27; and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on November 1, 2 and 3.
