Snapchat, an instant message and social media app, is set to enhance live music with augmented reality (AR) at a further 16 festivals, as part its multi-year partnership with Live Nation.
The partnership with Live Nation was announced early last year, and featured AR experiences at events including Lollapalooza in Chicago, Wireless Festival in London and Birmingham, and Miami’s Rolling Loud.
Snapchat will now introduce AR experiences at Beyond Wonderland Southern California; Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas; Creamfields South in Chelmsford and Creamfields North in Warrington, UK; Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic; Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee; Day Trip Festival in Long Beach, California; Reading Festival in Reading, UK; Leeds Festival in Leeds, UK; Mountain View, California’s Lights On; Lollapalooza Paris and Austin City Limits in Austin, Texas.
Returning festivals include The Governor’s Ball in New York, Wireless Festival, Rolling Loud Miami and Lollapalooza Chicago.
Snapchat said: “At Snap, we love building new ways to help people experience the world and the things they care about — whether it be daily communication with friends and family, improving fashion with AR try-on technology, attending sporting events and enhancing the fan experience, and even seeing live music.”
Attendees will be able to access Snapchat’s AR Compass and 3D map of festival grounds to stay connected with other guests.
Snapchat also revealed its new integration with Disguise, a provider of live event visualisation and virtual production technology, that will see it utilised by venues and tours internationally.
Fans will be able to see AR visuals through the Snapchat camera that interact with the on-stage visual production, via Disguise RenderStream.
DJ Kygo will also be partnering with Snapchat to create AR experiences for some of his summer concerts.
